Strasbourg and Colmar Christmas Markets – It’s the most wonderful time of the year!
Strasbourg France has one of the most beautiful Christmas markets ever!
Grab a cup of eggnog and join us today as we explore the 2 most beautiful Christmas markets in France, Strasbourg and Colmar!
The Strasbourg Christmas market is the oldest and largest Christmas market in France, dating back to 1570, with a wonderful setting in front of Strasbourg Cathedral.
It has over 300 chalets and attracts over 2 million visitors during the Christmas season. A wonderful Christmas tree is found on Place Kléber and there is a skating rink on Place du Château.
If you are planning on going there, a visit to La Petite France, an area of picturesque buildings with Christmas shops and a gingerbread bakery, is a must. Also, while you’re there make you sure you tuck into some local culinary specialties like sausages and choucroute (pickled cabbages) and the famous three-meat baeckeoffe stew. Mmmmm.... Delish!
Each of Colmar's five Christmas Markets is a separate mini-village with its own collection of passionate craftsmen. Installed in squares with their own architectural signature, these islands of festivity reflect the character of the city hosting them: friendly and authentic.
For six weeks, the whole of Old Colmar, miraculously protected from the vicissitudes of history, becomes one huge multi-faceted Christmas Market. Here, as you browse around the 180 stalls, you really feel the magic of Christmas seeping into you. It's all about experiencing the wonder of a child again; it's not something you can control, you just have to feel it.
All the best for the holiday season!
