Hey guys, today we are taking you to the heart of Mongolia, Ulaanbaatar, as we tick off country #120 on our incredible journey around the world. After a smooth 3.5-hour flight from South Korea, we landed in sunny Ulaanbaatar, immediately feeling the warmth of Mongolian hospitality.
Welcome to Mongolia
Mongolia, known for its vast landscapes and deep-rooted nomadic traditions, is a country where the past and present coexist. Home to the legacy of Genghis Khan and the expansive Mongol Empire, it's a place of historical marvels and cultural richness. Despite its sprawling deserts and rugged mountains, Mongolia's population remains sparse, making it one of the least densely populated places globally.
Kempinski Hotel Khan Palace in Ulaanbaatar
Our first stop was the luxurious Kempinski Khan Palace, our home for the next five nights. We're excited to give you a tour of our amazing rooms here, along with the perks we enjoyed, like the spa and sauna - a true oasis in the heart of the bustling city. ๐https://www.kempinski.com/en/hotel-khan-palace
We kicked off our exploration with a delicious breakfast at the hotel, sampling both local and continental dishes to fuel up a walking tour of downtown Ulaanbaatar. Plus, we didn't miss out on visiting Shangri-La, the city's largest mall, and climbing up to the popular viewpoint at Zaisan Hill for some breathtaking views.
A highlight of our day was celebrating Angelique's acceptance into a coding camp in London! To mark the occasion, we explored the local market, affectionately known as the Black Market, and later indulged in a sumptuous dinner at Kempinski's KK Restaurant & Lounge.
Mongolia Fun Facts
Mongolia's rich history, once the heart of the largest empire on earth, was evident in our visit to the Gandan Monastery, one of Ulaanbaatar's most significant religious and cultural sites. But our trip wasn't all about exploration; we also took some time to relax with a massage and a spa day at the Kempinski, where we met a fellow world traveler and shared stories from our adventures.
Stay tuned because next, we're diving into the traditional local way of living in Mongolia, offering you a glimpse into the life that thrives beneath the vast skies of this beautiful country.
