Bahrain Travel & Food Guide 🇧🇭 Top Things To See and Do In Manama Bahrain

Join us on a short tour around the city of Manama, the capital of Bahrain. 🇧🇭

Our next stop while cruising the Persian Gulf aboard the MSC Bellissima was the Kingdom of Bahrain.

This is a small country with a population of about 1.5 million, 50% of which are expats.
Bahrain means “Two Seas,” and it refers to the fresh and seawater surrounding the archipelago.

Located on Bahrain Island, the largest island in Bahrain, Manama has grown into a booming business and economics center.

It offers visitors and tourists an upscale shopping experience alongside an exciting dining, art, and cultural scene just waiting to be explored.

As soon as we got off the Bellissima, we took a shuttle to the port gates and then a taxi to the city center. The first attraction we visited was the Al Fateh Grand Mosque. This monumental structure can fit over 7000 worshippers at a time!

At the mosque, we were welcomed by a group of women who were offering religious books and materials about the Muslim faith in various languages.

Inside the mosque, they offered a free guided tour that told us all about the history of the mosques, the prayer cycles they do, and some of the rules of Islam, such as why women have to wear a headcover.

Next on our list of must-visit places was the Bahrain Fort, also known as the Portuguese Fort. This is a major UNESCO-protected archaeological site in Manama, with many findings dating back 5000 years.

We even saw what a typical village once used to look like and how Bahrainis once built their houses.

From there, we headed to the Bab AlBahrain Souk. From food and clothes to watches and jewelry, one can really get carried away exploring all those shops and stalls.

Chloe even tried to buy some fresh local bread, and they refused to take her money.

Next, we made a stop at a Krishna shrine in an area known as Mini India. People who have visited the subcontinent say that it really makes them feel like they were back in the country.

Unfortunately, some of us were feeling a little unwell, so we decided it was best to sit down and relax over some delicious Pakistani food for a late lunch.

And since we only had a short few hours to explore, we jumped back in a taxi after lunch and returned to the MSC Bellissima.
