Novigrad: a compelling touristic destination in western Croatia

Join us as we visit Novigrad Croatia - a charming coastal town, situated on a peninsula of the west coast of Istria.

Novigrad is one of the most northern towns on the Croatian coast. Once, it was a peaceful fishing town, but over the years it has become a dreamy tourist destination and one of the most charming locations for a relaxing time by the sea. At the seaward tip of the Old Town peninsula there is a large shaded park and beautiful waterside walkway, especially at sunset!

When we arrived to Novigrad, we found the town to be much bigger than we thought, with a surprising number of shops, boutique hotels and restaurants. The sun was setting as we reached our accommodation and there were hundreds of birds filling the atmosphere with a mesmerizing sound. We stayed 6 nights here at a home exchange in the heart of the old town, next to the sea and surrounded by picture perfect streets decorated with colorful umbrellas.

During our stay, the girls caught up on school work and we spent the afternoons exploring the region including day trips to Umag, Porec and Rovinj. The weather during our visit in October was amazing.

People always told us that if they could visit anywhere in Croatia, it would be Istria and now we have seen why. The region is extremely beautiful and we often lost track of time strolling through the villages at night.

During our stay we also met a family who were travelling the whole world by bike! We invited them to join us for a home cooked meal and shared stories of our adventures. Little did we know that a year later we both would end in New Zealand!
