Why we love Medellin Colombia… formerly the most dangerous city in the world!

After making it through the border we decided to take a flight to Colombia’s second biggest city, Medellin. I know what you must be thinking now as you’ve undoubtedly heard something about the city in relation to violence, cocaine, Pablo Escobar and things like that.

The bad reputation of this city from a few decades ago is definitely yet to be overcome. However, “The Most Dangerous City in the World” according to an old issue of Time magazine has undergone a huge transformation in the past 20 years.

The notorious narco boss has long been dead and amazing strides have been made to turn this city from the world’s most violent into the world’s most innovative. In addition to big improvements in public safety, there’s been a huge surge in urban development projects, including Colombia’s first metro system and cable cars to service poorer neighborhoods located high on the mountainsides, as well as new parks and libraries.
