Allow us to present you one of the Seven Wonders of the World – Machu Picchu!
This citadel, astronomical observatory and astonishing symbol of the Incan Empire was built around 1450AD. Unfortunately, most cities constructed by the Inca civilization were destroyed by the Spanish conquest. However, Machu Picchu survived due to its hidden location, invisible from below.
One of the most interesting facts about Machu Picchu is that many heavy stones had to be used to build the city. However, researchers believe that no wheels were used to transport these rocks up the mountain. Can you imagine hundreds of men pushing the heavy rocks up the steep mountainside? You have to admire such strength and devotion.
