Jet Boating Rotorua Taupo New Zealand 🇳🇿 Best Places To Visit In New Zealand
Join us on our first-ever jet boat ride on the Waikato River in Rotorua, New Zealand.
It was such a shiny bright morning for an activity we’d never experienced before.
Ready for an adventure, we hopped in the car and headed towards the New Zealand RiverJet Base.
Driving through the Rotorua area was such a pleasure. In combination with the many geysers that seemed to be popping out randomly from the earth, the beautiful landscapes gave us a feeling that we were traveling through wonderland.
When we arrived at the RiverJet Base, we signed in and chose our tour. They offered individual and family passes as well as multiple tours and combos we could choose from.
Once we went through basic “training” and geared up with multiple layers of protective clothing and life belts, it was time to get on our jet boat and start exploring the river and the surrounding canyons.
We started easy by taking a slow ride down the Waikato River while admiring the breathtaking landscapes.
Our tour guide explained the natural processes taking place along the river and the history of the region . He also showed us a few areas with hot springs and geothermal steam where the water was around 100°C and almost boiling.
It was such a fantastic experience, but we were in for another, even bigger surprise - “The Squeeze.” We’d call it an adventure within an adventure.
Just when we thought we were going to ease our way through the river, the guide asked us to disembark in knee-deep warm water. The shallows narrowed into a tight gap in the cliff that was barely wide enough for us to squeeze through, hence the name.
After piercing our way through narrow crevasses and climbing boulders, we reached a waterfall where we took some time to enjoy the thermal waters of a naturally heated hot spring and soak in all the beauty New Zealand had been blessed with.
Needless to say, it was one of our favorite activities ever. We loved it so much!
But time was running out on us, so we had to return to the boat. Climbing back in was kind of a challenge, but we managed to board properly. All buckled up, we were ready to pick up speed.
This time we were going so fast that Julia lost her hat, and we had to stop and fish it out of the water.
Back at the New Zealand RiverJet Base, we were served some delicious hot soup. They also offered different branded merchandise and souvenirs and even packages of pictures from your boat ride for people who hadn’t brought waterproof cameras.
We warmly recommend taking a river jet boat ride to everyone with an adventurous spirit and love for nature.
