Mostar Bosnia – Home of the Famous Stari Most Bridge
Join us as we visit Mostar - the largest and most enchanting city in Hercegovina with deep Ottoman roots.
Lying on the Neretva River, Mostar is one of the most popular destinations in Bosnia & Herzegovina. This town is named after the famous Old Bridge - Stari Most. This masterpiece of Ottoman engineering was designed by the renowned architect Sinan and built over 400 years ago out of stone with a single arch of 90 feet (27 meters) wide. Standing tall at 69 feet (21 meters) high over the Neretva River, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Unfortunately, the bridge we see today is a reconstruction of the original one, which was destroyed by artillery fire in 1993 during the Croat-Bosniak conflict. On our trip to Dubrovnik, Croatia , we decided to stop by the Mostar and visited the famous bridge here. The top view of the water was outstanding. The rocks of the water looked like a heaven under the water. People were jumping on the water from the bridge. We took some pictures and finally chose a scratchy road to cross the border which was the most adventurous moment of our tour.
However, the town has left the dark days behind. From the cobblestoned streets to the old stone buildings and the riverside cafes, this picturesque small town on the Neretva River is now a lively and beautiful destination!
