NEPAL IS AMAZING 🇳🇵❤️ First Impressions of Kathmandu City

Hey Guys, today we are continuing our adventure in Nepal, exploring the heart of Kathmandu over two amazing days!

 

Exploring Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Square

We kicked off our morning with a delightful breakfast at the Hyatt Place Kathmandu, our cozy home away from home. Feeling energized, we took a short taxi ride to the historic Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Square, where we explored the royal palace and shared some fascinating fun facts about Nepal along the way.

 

Did you know Nepal has a population of about 30 million people and is predominantly Hindu, with Buddhism also being widely practiced? Plus, it's one of the rare countries that still feels preserved and untouched, offering an authentic cultural experience.

 

Unique Nepal: Flag and Culture

Speaking of uniqueness, Nepal is the only country in the world with a non-rectangular flag. The flag consists of two stacked triangles, symbolizing the Himalayas and the two major religions, Hinduism and Buddhism. The sun and moon on the flag represent the hope that Nepal will last as long as these celestial bodies.

 

Discovering Thamel and Nepali Cuisine

Wandering through charming alleyways, we enjoyed the peace away from the main streets and stumbled upon some delicious Momos, our favorite Nepali treat.

 

Shopping and Dining at the Hyatt Place

In need of some new gear, we went shopping and each found the perfect pair of hiking pants. Returning to the Hyatt Place, we relaxed at their rooftop pool before indulging in a delightful dinner at Zing World of Flavours restaurant. There was live music, and we could actually see the chefs preparing the food. The atmosphere was amazing, and the food was even better!

 

Visiting Bhaktapur Durbar Square

The next morning, after meeting some friendly Chinese tourists during breakfast, we set off on a 30-minute taxi ride to Bhaktapur Durbar Square. We marveled at the Nyatapola Temple and the different squares, feeling like we were transported back in time as we walked through the ancient streets. Fun fact: Nyatapola Temple is the tallest pagoda-style temple in Nepal, standing at 30 meters high, and was built in 1702. Bhaktapur itself is known for its well-preserved architecture and rich history, making it a must-visit destination in Kathmandu Valley.

 

Iconic Monkey Temple and Final Thoughts

Our day concluded with a drive up to the iconic Monkey Temple (Swayambhunath), where we soaked in breathtaking views of Kathmandu. Fun fact: Swayambhunath is one of the oldest religious sites in Nepal and is considered sacred by both Buddhists and Hindus. The temple complex has numerous shrines and a large stupa topped with the all-seeing eyes of Buddha. Angelique and Chloe, however, were not very keen on the monkeys roaming around the temple grounds!

 

We ended the day with a lovely meal back at the Hyatt Place, reflecting on our incredible experiences and the lasting friendships we've made on our trips. We even met a guy here who later came to visit us in Switzerland!
