LIVING IN INDIA!?! 🇮🇳 How We Ended Up in UTOPIA in AUROVILLE Pondicherry

Hi guys! In this video, we’re taking you all over Auroville and showing you what life is like in India’s experimental city of the future!

After spending a few days in Auroville, we quickly started to fall in love with the uniqueness of this place, so the decision was obvious! We were staying longer!

The Girls Attending a Youth Event

While the girls were participating in a Youth Event, we decided to do some shopping and left Auroville. To our surprise, we didn’t have to go too far from the Auroville “borderline” before the difference between this place and the rest of India became too obvious.

Back at the youth event, the girls were having fun meeting new people and learning about different cultures and life in Auroville in general.

We ended the day with a nice vegetarian dinner and a movie in the makeshift cinema we created ourselves in the communal dining area.

Auroville in a Nutshell

So what is Auroville, you may ask?

Auroville is an international, intentional community located in the coastal state of Tamil Nadu, India. Founded in 1968 by the spiritual leader Mirra Alfassa (also known as the Mother), it is dedicated to realizing human unity and spiritual self-development.

The name Auroville comes from a combination of two words – “Auro” means divine, and “Ville” means city. Its purpose is to be a universal town where people from all over the world can live in peace and progressive harmony, above all creeds, politics, and nationalities.

The Matrimandir at its center is also a unique feature that functions as a 'soul of the city' for all its inhabitants. Unfortunately, we were not invited inside the temple, so we could only admire its beauty from the outside.

Everyone has an equal say in decisions regarding the running of the town. They also get provided with free electricity, healthcare, lunch, and education. Sounds like paradise, right?

I’m not sure it’s paradise, but it was certainly different. Out days quickly turned into a routine, but we kind of liked it because we are always on the move. Staying put for a while was absolutely refreshing. Plus, they had superfast internet that made out lives 10X easier.

Bike Tour Around Auroville

We rented some bikes, and they quickly became our main means of transport around Auroville for sightseeing, grabbing coffee, or shopping.

Auroville was such a beautiful and peaceful place, which allowed us to focus on school and work, but it also had so much to offer. We loved spending time with people who both decided to change their lives and move to Auroville and those born in the city of the future.
