El Tunco Beach El Salvador | Surf & Fun in the Sun
Welcome to El Tunco, a tiny beach-side town in the country of El Salvador.
It is a surfers’ delight and a very small beach town. Located 30 minutes away from the capital, it used to be a quiet, unknown place that is now the most visited town in El Salvador. Now there are around 20 hostels, bars, and restaurants.
The name El Tunco actually means “The pig” which sounds kind of funny, but it’s actually called after a huge rock in the ocean that resembles the shape of a pig. It is one of the most photographed and iconic images of the town. El Tunco is not a cultural, or historically important city, but it’s popular because of the legendary surfing and the wild nightlife. People come here to relax, surf, swim and party.
One of the most beautiful things in the town is its black sand beach, Playa El Tunco. It is covered with gray rocks that change with the tide and has the most amazing waves. In the evening, people gather here to watch the sunsets with spectacular explosions of color across the sky. Everybody arrives here to hang out and have a last dip in the ocean.
The food is delicious and the most popular dish and the cheapest one is Pupusas, the national dish of El Salvador, which we tried and really enjoyed. They are small corn tortillas with different fillings such as beans, cheese, chicken etc...
El Tunco is a little town that makes you stop for a minute and just enjoy the moment and have fun, we loved it!
